Georgetown Students Study Residential Colleges

20 April 2004 (collegiateway.org) — I received email last week from a student at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Along with a group of friends, he is interested in bringing the residential college idea to the attention of the Georgetown community. It has been a special pleasure for me to hear from time to time from both undergraduates and alumni of various universities who are deeply committed to the improvement of campus life at their home institutions.
There is no reason that students, alumni, parents, and local friends cannot introduce the collegiate way to their favorite campus. Good ideas come from all directions, and it is often the people closest to “the ground†(students and alumni) who know best what is going on and what is needed. A letter to the campus newspaper, an essay for the alumni magazine, an email to the university president—all these things can start the ball rolling.
