to the College Office (Room 140), and by 12:00 noon on Thursdays for
inclusion in the next week’s issue.  Events are open to all members of
Strong College unless otherwise indicated.


GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

- Thursday Night Movies! -

Our own Thomas Dort is now sponsoring Thursday Night Movies in the Star 
Chamber from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m.  Join him and a host of Strong College 
members this week for Malcolm X in celebration of Black History Month.  
A special edition of Thursday Night Movies next Saturday (that’s right) 
will feature Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.  Check the College 
Calendar below for more details.

- Dangerous Dating -

Please join RA Charlotte Williams for a special Phase II program on 
dating and college life: Dangerous Dating — come and share your 
thoughts and concerns, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Junior Common Room.  
Refreshments will be served.

- Help the Special Olympics! -

Strong College Adopt-a-COPP Jerome Lee is selling tee shirts in support 
of the North Carolina Special Olympics for handicapped children.  The 
price is $13 — please see Officer Lee or Ms. Delva to pick one up 
today!

- News of Members -

All of Strong College extends its heartfelt condolences to our north 
housekeeper Virginia Cherry on the recent loss of her husband.

Second floor RA Woto Nyomba has been appointed Business Manager of the 
Carolinian.

Chris Witmore has been accepted as a volunteer this coming summer at the 
archaeological excavations of the Athenian Agora, sponsored by the 
American School of Classical Studies.

Third floor RA Charlotte Williams has been selected as a University 
Marshall.

First floor RA Kathy Ross is now Program Director at WUAG Radio 103.1, 
and wants everyone to know she now has both an office and voice mail.

Furthering our plan to take over the airwaves, Connell Green and Kamanda 
Nyomba have a new radio show on WUAG 103.1FM: tune in to “The Dungeon” 
every Friday night/Saturday morning from 1:00 - 5:00 a.m.

- Poem-of-the-Week -

The Strong College Poem-of-the-Week is now appearing on the bulletin 
board outside the College Office.  For Black History Month this week’s 
poem is by Phyllis Wheatley (ca. 1753-1784): “Should you, my lord, while 
you peruse my song.”

Come join your fellow Strong College members for breakfast, lunch, and 
dinner in the Caf — we eat in the raised section of the State Dining 
Room, right behind the food serving room.  Bring your roommates and 
neighbors, too!

- Monday, 20 February -

6:00 - 7:30 p.m., College Library (330): The Strong College Writing 
Corner is open for you!  The Strong College Writing Corner is an annex 
of the University Writing Center, and offers advice and counsel to 
students working on papers for any course.  (Meg Campbell, Amy Garrett,

- Tuesday, 21 February -

10:00 - 10:45 p.m., Committee Room (230): Strong College Council 
Meeting.  All Strong College students welcome to attend and participate

4:00 - 5:00 p.m., Junior Common Room (136): President’s Tea!  Stop by 
the JCR for food and drink and informal conversation.  It’s the social

Hour.  Bring a favorite short piece to read or just sit back and listen.
