Regatta logistics are overwhelmingly complex, and nothing at all would have come off that day without the help of Jan Tulloss (Regatta Official), Laurie White (Strong College Prizemeister), Bob O’Hara (Strong College Buffalo Wrangler and Factotum), Cliff Rhodes (Master Chef), Shelly McLain (Official Starter), Matt Gillespie (Artiste), Scott Thomason (College Gamester), Ray Morton and Amanda Waterhouse (Propaganda Ministers), the members of the Strong College Council (Kelly Woodfin, President), and especially the Strong College Corps of Engineers (Tim Owens, Generalissimo; Heather Lloyd, First Lieutenant). See you all next year for the Fourth Annual Buffalo Creek Regatta!

The winner of this year’s election for President of the Strong College Council is Scott Thomason. Thomas Naylor Visits Strong College
Strong College recently had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Thomas Naylor, Emeritus Professor of Economics at Duke University and author of The Abandoned Generation. Dr. Naylor is an advocate of residential colleges nationwide and a critic of the declining quality of student life in big universities. He was very impressed by what he saw in Strong College and he congratulated us all on what we have accomplished in the face of many obstacles. An article by Dr. Naylor is now appearing on the bulletin board outside the College Office.
Poem-of-the-Week
The Strong College Poem-of-the-Week is posted on the bulletin board outside the College Office and is usually reprinted here. This week’s poem is the anonymous limnological song “The Silver Swan”:
The silver swan, who living had no note,
When death approached, unlocked her silent throat,
Leaning her breast against the reedy shore,
Thus sung her first and last, and sung no more:
Farewell all joys! O death, come close mine eyes;
More geese than swans now live, more fools than wise.
