Where’s Where (Being a Brief Outline of Celebrated Strong College Places)
The College Office (140), where you can stop by to chat with Dr. White, Dr. O’Hara, or Ms. Lauritzen, leave items for the Newsletter, and generally partake of the rarefied atmosphere.
The Junior Common Room (136), the living room of Strong College, complete with piano. The JCR is the home of the College Tea, every Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Open at all times.
The Game Room (130), with TV, pool table, card table, and vending machines. Open at all times.
The Library (330), established through generous donations from students and faculty. The Library has a growing collection of general-interest books, and several computers. It is open during posted hours thanks to the efforts of our team of volunteer librarians, and locked at other times. (The Library will be recruiting volunteers and setting up a schedule for the semester very soon. Watch for more information.)
The Senior Common Room (162), the Fellows’ common room used for faculty-sponsored events such as the Strong College Literary Hour. Strong College Fellows have keys.
The Committee Room (230), headquarters of the Strong College Council and used by the Council and other recognized student organizations in Strong College. Strong College Council officers have keys.
The Star Chamber (362), our comfy TV room, complete with a Pepsi machine. Watch Star Trek here. (There are reputed to be other things that one can watch on TV, but we don’t know anything about them.) Open at all times.
The Virtual Common Room, Strong-L in cyberspace, our email discussion group for all Strong College members. Open at all times for sure. Also visit the Strong College world wide web page.
Poem-of-the-Week
The Strong College Poem-of-the-Week is posted on the bulletin board outside the College Office, and is sometimes reprinted here.
In joy and praise come let us sing
With anthem clear and strong;
Let all Cornelian voices ring
In free, exultant song
Of pride for that fair name we bear—
Cornelian! glorious word
To make us gladly do and dare,
Whene’er ’tis gladly thought, whene’er ’tis heard.We’ll onward, upward ever move,
Our footsteps forward pressed;
Together move in sister-love
Unto the mountain’s crest,
To gain the fair, wide spreading view
Which round the mountain lies,
And gives us understanding new,
Enlightening our eager eyes.May Cornelia’s name have ne’er a stain
From any daughter’s deed.
For her all glory will we gain
And give her honors meed;
For firm and staunch we e’er will stand
Unto each other true,
And loyal to our noble band,
Hers—yea, her own, our whole lives through.
