“On another shore and in a greater light”

— One of the greatest collegiate traditions in the world is the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols held each year at Christmastime in the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge. This service has been broadcast around the world by BBC radio since the 1930s, and is heard each year by millions of people. The order of this year’s service has not yet been posted, but you can learn about the history of this wonderful tradition from the King’s Chapel website. This is a tradition you should certainly introduce to your residential college students, whatever their own religious backgrounds may be. Perhaps all visitors to the Collegiate Way website, as friends of residential colleges, could all to tune in together to the live broadcast and become for that one day a special collegium of our own.
