GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

- Study Hard, and Have a Wonderful Break! -

The President and Fellows of Strong College wish all our undergraduate
members the best of success in their exams, and a happy and peaceful
holiday season. We look forward to your return next year!

- New Staff Member Joining Us Next Semester -

We are very pleased to announce that a new staff member will be joining
us this coming semester! Ms. Shirley Delva, a graduate student in the
UNCG School of Education, will be taking over many of the daily Resident
Director duties from Dr. O’Hara, who will be enabled thereby to devote
more of his time to developing Strong College programs and activities
for the coming year in his capacity as Senior Tutor. Ms. Delva is
originally from Haiti, and she did her undergraduate work at the
University of Florida. Please introduce yourself to Ms. Delva when the
new term begins, and welcome her to our community of Strong men and
women!

- The New Year Also Brings a New Chancellor -

The new year will also mark the arrival of Dr. Patricia Sullivan as the
new Chancellor of the University. Strong College welcomes Dr. Sullivan
to Greensboro and to the University, and hopes she will be able to join
us for tea sometime during the coming semester to meet all our members.

- The Tree! The Tree! -

Many thanks to all who decorated the lovely tree in the Junior Common
Room, and thanks especially to Pam Wilson who loaned us the tree itself.
(And thanks also to Brandi Maxwell, who loaned us a smaller tree which
graces the Senior Common Room.) (We are a new College, y’know, and
these things take a long time to grow.)

- Last President’s Tea of the Year! -

This will be your last chance to join President White for tea in 1994.
Stop by the JCR this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. for snacks and conversation.
It’s the study break of the Strong College week!

- Strong College Tee Shirts Make Great Holiday Gifts! -

Why not pick up several for your friends and family? They will be
available at tea on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., and are also available at
any time from your RA. Only $6.00! Such a deal!

- Quiet Hours Extended for Exams -

Extended quiet hours for exam period are now in effect in all campus
residence halls. Instead of ending at 10:00 a.m., quiet hours continue
through the day until 7:00 p.m., and then begin for the evening at 8:00
p.m., continuing again until 7:00 p.m. the next day, all through the
remainder of the semester. Please remember that even if you don’t have
an exam on a particular day your neighbors may, and may be studying all
around you. Let them have your respect and consideration by keeping the
noise levels down all week.

- Cyberspace Never Closes (Strong-L Open Over Break) -

Why not keep in touch with your fellow Strong College members over break
through Strong-L, our e-mail discussion group? Moore-Strong Hall may be
closed, but Strong College’s virtual common room will stay open for
everyone.

- Poem-of-the-Week -

The Strong College Poem-of-the-Week is now appearing on the main
bulletin board outside the College Office. This week’s lines come from
Alfred Tennyson’s In Memoriam (1850), and for the holidays we print them
here as well:

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
                The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
                Ring happy bells, across the snow;
The year is going, let him go:
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
