A Television Bonanza!

Looking for diversion? Get out of your room and into the Star Chamber! There are now so many TV groups in Strong College you can join one almost every night of the week!

New on Mondays: Will Sting and Lex Luger reunite? Will the NWO crush the WCW? Will Mean Gene grow hair? These questions and more will be answered every Monday night in the Star Chamber on WCW Monday Nitro, 11:00 p.m.–1:00 a.m. Come join us for all the hard hitting action of WCW’s big boys. (Hey, remember, Voyager isn’t real either.) Tights and face paint optional; steel chairs recommended. (Scott Thomason)

Thursdays: Join the emergency room team in the Star Chamber for medical excitement on ER from 10:00–11:00 p.m. (Eric Harrington)

Fridays: Join Strong College X-philes for X-Files Friday Night from 9:00–10:00 p.m. (Kelly Woodfin)

Saturdays: Star Trek: Voyager in the Star Chamber from 7:00–8:00 p.m. What more is there in life? (Bob O’Hara)

Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!

From our reporters in the field: “Chris Beaver, Scott Thomason, and a mystery partner represented Cornelia Strong College on September 15th at the WCW Fall Brawl in Winston-Salem. Chris loved the action, but Scott said it wasn’t bloody enough for his tastes.” (Now this is a noble tradition that must continue. —Ed.)

Points of Light

Dr. O’Hara bought three cartons of books for the Strong College Library at the Jackson Library’s recent used book sale, including a science and technology encyclopedia. And many thanks also to Shannon Downer and Rob Lawter who were dragooned into helping carry them away.

Poem-of-the-Week

The Strong College Poem-of-the-Week is posted on the bulletin board outside the College Office and is usually posted here. This week’s poem is the Homeric Hymn to Heracles the Lion-Hearted (ca. 600 BC; translated by Thelma Sargent), for the Monday Nitro crowd:

Heracles will I sing, son of Olympian Zeus,
Strongest by far of men who inhabit the earth,
Born to Alcmene in Thebes, city of beautiful dances,
Of her union in love with black-clouded Zeus son of Cronos.
In earlier times he roamed the unmeasured expanse
Of land and sea at the will of Eurystheus the king;
Many were the dangerous tasks he performed and much did he suffer,
But now in the lovely abode of snow-capped Olympus
He joyously lives with slim-ankled Hebe, his wife.
Hail, lord, son of Zeus; grant with prosperity excellence!
